Me

Hello I'm Jessie
Who I am and what I do is a surprisingly complicated discussion. It depends who you ask and on what day. Most days, I don’t even recognize myself.
To my oldest son I am teacher, barber, taxi, boredom patrol and personal gluten free chef, to name only a few. To my second son I am Transformer’s master, Lego collector, boredom patrol and personal gluten free chef. My oldest two sons will be affectionately referred to as Thing 1 and Thing 2 (Cat in the Hat is a family favorite). To the next in line I am the food factory and baby language translator. I will call him Bubba (that’s the name he calls his grandmas). To my youngest and only girl I am nothing more than a personal chef, YET! She will be PeeWee.
My husband loves my passion though sometimes it leads us in circles. I am always enthusiastic about what I’m doing. My newest challenge is becoming a master at gluten free baking. This endeavor is what inspired my Blog Schmog. I am a bit of a goof and a very busy mamma. I am old fashioned and prefer paper and pencil so a blog where people can read all about me online weirds me out, that’s one reason I called it the Blog Schmog.
I have been perfecting this thing about needing to feed the family a gluten free diet for about 4yrs now. Perfect is far from from it, but the journey is worth sharing. So far half of us have celiac sprue. I’m publishing my journey as a gluten free master baker (to be taken with a grain of salt) in hopes that I can be an inspiration to others and a help for anyone who is overwhelmed by learning to eat great food after being diagnosed with celiac disorder. I wish someone would have published a “what I can eat manual” for the newly diagnosed. This is intended to be that and other nonsense as the mood hits me. Homeschooling, crafting, farm life and gardening, reading/ book reviews and last on this list but not at all the least important, learning to be more like my loving Father, and faithful Friend, Jesus, are some of the other topics I will write about.

Don’t be surprised if this blog doesn’t “fit the mold” or follow a schedule, I like to march to my own beat. Sometimes I will write as often as twice a week. Sometimes I will be absent from “blogdom” as I play in the garden and ride my horse in the Idaho mountains. This is, after all, my anti-blog. I will attempt to respond to emails and comments and/or write a post at least every week… so don’t be alarmed if I disappear from time to time. My little sister has my password and will let you know if something is the matter.
Other things I enjoy are crafting, hiking and backpacking, fishing, skiing, pretty much anything outdoors and a few things inside (for the worst days). After all we live in the Northwest; beautiful, unpredictable Idaho on a little farm in the country. My son says we are a farm because we tried to grow corn last year. We do have a lot of animals and a lot of pine trees.
If you are bored here is a random post about me.
I sincerely hope you find my blog helpful and fun!

What a gal! It’s so fun to see how creative you are!! I think some of those genes came from me:) Well, really from our great and wonderful creator who allowed me to be your mamma. Great Job!
Keep up the wonder and don’t forget to have a good hard laugh every day!

Hi Jessie,
Finally made it here and I’m glad I did!
I share your love of GF baking and have been doing it since 2003, but I only one child to also manage at the time. And, I didn’t homeschool and do everything else you mention. Wow! But, I am convinced GF baking and GF eating in general has been presented as far too difficult. If you stick with recipes that are naturally GF or easily made GF, then it’s such a simple transition. Of course that’s my whole gluten free easily (GFE) approach which you already know about.
I look forward to checking back here from time to time. Spreading awareness and sharing what’s worked for us can only help us all.
Best,
Shirley

I just found your blog! I’m so glad I did. You sound like such a fun person! I live in the Northwest also and attended college in Idaho. I love what you said about wanting to be more like our loving Father, Jesus. That is my desire as well.
I am glad to be following your blog now!
Thanks for writing!

Hi Jessie,
I have enjoyed exploring your blog. Wow! We have A LOT in common…your “about me” sounds like it was written about me too! Right down to the hobby farm on 5 acres in the Pacific NW. Our hobbies and interests are identical… only differance is that I have 3 kids not 4.
Thanks for the comment you made on my blog “Gluten Free Taste of Home” about my hubby’s awesome fried rice.
We should exchange blog links on each other’s sites… let me know if you are intersted in doing that. My e-mail is createwithme@clearwire.net
Cheers,
Cinde

Fellow gluten free blogger,
I’m staring a carnival blog as a one-stop shopping place for gluten free information. A blog carnival is like a magazine of articles that gets published on a schedule. Every 3 months (I hope it catches on so that we can do this more often – at least monthly), bloggers submit an article related to the GF lifestyle from their blog. The submission will be combined with all others onto 1 carnival page, which will include links to each participant’s article on their own blog (so you retain the rights to the post, and your trademarks stay intact). We can all take turns being the host blogger (if you are interested in hosting, let me know!). We hope that we can all learn from each other and introduce our readers to other gluten free sites out there.
If you’d like to see a sample carnival, check out http://allergickid.blogspot.com/2009/06/living-with-food-allergies-blog.html.
Joining the community of contributors is a great way to get more readers to your blog. It’s easy to do. Just follow the below link and fill in the quick form linking one of your best blog posts to the carnival page. Topic areas will include recipes, tips, research, advice/support, etc. Your post will be posted along with contributions from other GF bloggers.
http://blogcarnival.com/bc/submit_7356.html
The deadline for the next carnival is July 25, 2009. Be sure to let your readers know about the first carnival. It’ll be posted on August 1st at http://thefoodallergycoach.blogspot.com/.
Looking forward to reading your post,
Kim

Jessie, thanks so much for introducing yourself! I just had to come over and meet you…I’m so sorry that you can’t eat wheat bread! I really feel for you and those who have celiac sprue…many people suffer for YEARS without finding out the cause of their symptoms.
You and your family will be truly blessed in your endeavors to be a master gluten free baker and inspire others to do the same!

Hey I love the first paragraph the line that says, “Most days I don’t even regonize myself.” That’s the line of my life. Love your blog!!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog– and I look forward to reading more of your info here at Blog Schmog.. we appear to have some shared passions – our children and family life. It’s an awesome (and sometimes overwhelming) calling in life, so every bit of support we can find in each other is a blessing.
Thanks again, and take care!
Dene

I am so glad to have found your blog. We have just recently gone gluten free this year with our 2 year olds celiac diagnosis. I, too, have a large family. FIve kids 8, 6, 3, 2 and 6 months. We were homeschooling until dd 2 was so sick pre-diagnosis that we needed to send the oldest two to school to save my sanity. We hope to return to homeschooling next year. I am also thrilled to see a gluten free blog that is decidedly Christian. Thank you for what you write and your honesty, I look forward to reading more.

I’m so glad you found me as well! Would love to learn more about your family and your little ones diagnosis. Is he the only one that you are aware of? My oldest son, 3yrs old, at the time is one big factor in me finding out I am celiac and consequently the diagnosis of my sister and mom. Can’t wait to “get to know you”.
